The Sicilian Gino Marinuzzi, born in 1882 and died in 1945, was one of the most learned musicians of his times, as documented by the few essays he dictated and the extant texts of his many lectures. He was mainly active as a conductor (with excellent interpretations of Verdi, Wagner and Strauss) and composer.
Today, finally, a movement of re-evaluation of Marinuzzi’s output has begun and Dynamic gives its contribution with the present CD, featuring all world première recordings.
The three works included on our disc show us not just a dominator with few equals of the doctrinaire instruments of composition, but also an instrumental and harmonic style which are highly personal: far removed, moreover, from the sumptuous sound quality that typified the last decades of the nineteenth and early decades of the twentieth century. The Sinfonia, in particular, which was conducted by the Maestro in 1943 at the Florence Maggio Musicale Festival, stands out for its dense and knowledgeable writing, as well as for the richness of its thematic material.
