“Schlömer concentrates wholly on characterisation and deft movement; magic effects are cleverly, unliterally reinvented. Again, this feels true to the work's Greek dramatic heritage - melodramatic actions, as it were, is wholly banished. The cast have clearly rehearsed carefully together; there are no "star" turns, and all are well within their roles vocally. Zagrosek's cool, carefully pulsed conducting suits this score well, and the filming feels better rehearsed than some of the later cycle.”
“All in all, the new Stuttgart Rheingold was a clear winner.”
“There can be nothing but praise for Angela Denoke’s debut as Sieglinde; she seems to have taken up Rysanek’s mantle.”
