BBC Music Magazine

**

“Pappano aside, Yuri Temirkanov appears the most relaxed and charismatic of the conductors; Valery Gergiev pops in briefly, weary, unshaven, and on the phone. None of them, however, tops the extraordinary archive spectacle for the French maestro Georges Pretre, stirred into such agony conducting Bolero that he hides his face behind his hands.”

“Antonio Pappano in front of a movie camera is compulsive viewing; before an Italian orchestra, the result is compulsive listening.”

MusicWeb International

8th January 2014

“The Italian Character is the story of this well-respected Italian orchestra... [Pappano] speaks knowledgeably and with evident honesty about his feelings about music and clearly demonstrates enthusiasm for his work...This video is clearly motivated by a team of musicians, passionate about their orchestra.”
