The Vietnamese pianist Dang Thai Son was propelled to the forefront of the musical world in October 1980 when he was awarded the First Prize and Gold Medal in the Tenth International Piano Competition in Warsaw. His international career has taken him to over forty countries and he has sat on the jury for many prestigious competitions. Here he performs on a Steinway fortepiano.
“the pianist takes us through various expressive categories...His pianistic sound is based on warm singing lines, but he never stresses the bel canto inheritance at the expense of deeper musical substance. This recital is not just well-groomed Chopin playing: such episodes as the unusually stormy middle section of the Op. 55 No. 1 in F minor also demonstrate the pianist's individuality.”
