This is an important restoration to the catalogues of one of the best-loved operatic partnerships of the years following World War II - the soprano Pierrette Alarie and the tenor Leopold Simoneau, who were husband and wife in real life. They are perfectly matched in this legendary recording of Bizet's most beautiful opera Les pecheurs de perles with an all-French cast and the Lamoureux Orchestra and Elisabeth Brasseur Choir under the superb Jean Fournet. Here is a very fine account of this lovable opera in excellent sound, and the additional tracks comprise a 'greatest hits' collection of some of the best of French opera by Gounod, Delibes, Offenbach and Thomas. A truly delightful set of records.
