Capella de Ministrers, Carles Magraner

The sixteenth century saw the first printed editions of music. Music had now become a business and various new markets began to emerge, one of these was that for instrumental music. Instrumental music had a long standing tradition, which is only known to us through indirect sources and a few fragmentary musical examples. La Spagna is a type of melody that flourished in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries.
