Die Massnahme (The Measures Taken), which was the first cooperation between the author and poet Bertolt Brecht and the composer Hanns Eisler, was premiered on December 13, 1930 at the Philharmonie Berlin.
It was not until decades later that the work was re-performed in Germany for the first time since the time of its creation: in 1997 by the Berliner Ensemble and in the following years it was re-established and celebrated on the stages in Germany and all over Europe.
With the release of the reference recording from the performance in Dresden in 1998, MDR Klassik makes this extraordinary work now finally available on CD.
Live recording from the performance on October 3, 1998 in Dresden, Festspielhaus Hellerau.
The CD Box contains a 40 page booklet full of recent and historical information as well as a rare and valuable bonus track featuring a shellac-recording, dating from December 1930 in the Homocord recording studio Berlin, with Bertold Brecht (speaking role), Erik Wirl (tenor) and orchestra directed by Hanns Eisler.
