These recordings also come from 1967 (the symphony) and 1970 (The Tempest). Tchaikovsky premiered the symphony himself in November 1888 and to this day, it remains one of his most endearing works. The Tempest was composed after a trip to Germany, Switzerland, Paris and Italy and marked a reconciliation with the Mighty Five who approved of its ‘Russian’ character.
