Multi award-winning French vocal ensemble, A Sei Voci, present a programme of music by Charles D’Helfer and Josquin des Prez. Recorded live in 1993 during performances at the music festival (Rencontres Musicales) at Consla-Grandville. CD1 sees A Sei Voci attempt to reconstruct the music performed at the Funeral Mass of a duke of Lorraine, which was such an essential element in the cultural and musical heritage of the duchy. They sing works by contemporary composers who were active in Lorraine or were known to Charles III, Henri II, and their musical establishment. The second CD features two masses by Josquin des Prez, considered by many to be the first master of the high renaissance style of polyphonic vocal music during his lifetime.
