Zemlinsky wrote his two completed symphonies very early in his career (an earlier Symphony in E minor survives incomplete), and was only 28 by the time he had composed them. However, through the influences of Brahms, Wagner and Dvorák a unique late Romantic voice can already be heard, paving the way for his later operatic successes. A fascinating insight into rare repertoire, and the early development of one of the great neglected composers of the 20th century.
