His Cantos del alma (Songs of the Soul) are settings of four poems by Juan Ramón Jiménez, “a composition in which voice, clarinet and orchestra ... establish a poetic dialogue, both intimate and idyllic”.
Palomo’s Sinfonía a Granada (Granada Symphony) was written in response to a commission from the area’s regional government. The composer himself has written, “I have been faithful to the most authentic Andalusian music, introducing a number of Arabic and Hebraic melismas as well as cadences characteristic of flamenco”.
