The Naxos comprehensive Liszt Piano Edition continues this month with some remarkable performances of Liszt’s transcriptions for two pianos of his Symphonic Poems. This disc includes the piano transcription of one of Lizst’s most famous orchestral works, Les Préludes. There is no denying the sheer musicianship – and physical strength – required of a performer (or in this case, performers) for such a mammoth undertaking. The Kanazawa-Admony Piano Duo recently won first prize in the 2005 Osaka international chamber music competition, and in 2000 were awarded first prize in the Tokyo piano duo competition.
