Benet Casablancas is one of the leading Spanish composers of his generation. His music, though firmly rooted in the great classical tradition, in particular the Second Viennese School, is notable for its great individuality, structural complexity and extraordinary richness of textural detail. This recording brings together almost all the piano works of Casablancas, from the early Prelude and Fugue in C, followed ten years later by the richly polyphonic triptych, Three Pieces for piano, to the Three Bagatelles, which balance brilliant virtuosity with the sonorous delicacy of impressionistic inspiration, to the composer’s most recent work, written especially for this recording, Tre Divertimenti for piano for four hands.
