The Repentant Thief The Repentant Thief for clarinet and orchestra was written in 1990, two years after John Tavener composed his most celebrated instrumental piece The Protecting Veil. The Repentant Thief has sections in a similarly meditative style to The Protecting Veil, interspersed with contrasting dance sections.
