A rare commercial recording of the fiery Harrison & Harrison organ of Coventry Cathedral: a kaleidoscope of sounds and colours that proves that the organ is indeed the king of contemporary instruments. Contemporary British Organ Music volume 3 explores the works of several living British composers and offers something for every taste: from the minimalism of Glyn Perrin’s Sigma Lambda and Huw Morgan’s Lullaby, through the angular and exciting modernism of Timothy Salter and the album’s organist, Michael Bonaventure, to colourful character pieces by Ian McQueen and Yumi Hara Cawkwell and exciting toccatas by Nicholas O’Neill and David Bedford.
The organist, Michael Bonaventure, is renowned for his interpretations of contemporary music: he is much sought after as a recitalist in Britain and abroad. Future volumes are planned, featuring the music of Paul Patterson, Geoffrey King and John McCabe.
Volumes 1 & 2 hold the complete organ music of Laurence Crane, Gabriel Jackson, Avril Anderson and David Sutton-Anderson.
