"Most variations on The Carnival of Venice were written by outstanding virtuosi such as Herbert Clarke in order to display their own great technique and range.
I have kept these miniature variations within the scope of the average student, however, and have included many facets of technique (such as tonguing, phrasing, etc.) which will help the player master the instrument and be of use as he or she embarks upon a career. (William Vacchiano)
William Vacchiano, was a trumpet legend. In his prime he had so much work that he had assistants whose sole job was to hail him cabs and get him and his instruments in atimely manner from performance to performance. In addition to his 31 years as principal trumpet with the New York Philharmonic, his concert career and his lineof mouthpieces, and perhaps why he is as beloved as he is respected, was a dedicated teacher turning out generations of successful working musicians."
