Mozart: Andante in C major, K315 for flute and orchestra

For this recording, husband and wife duo Michael and Regine Kofler have chosen works which are dear to their hearts and they have regularly featured in their recitals. Many are existing arrangements, but they have arranged a few works themselves. They include compositions by Bach, Mozart, Chopin, Ibert, Berthomieu, Fauré, Tournier, Rossini and Saint-Saëns.

French master autist Jean-Pierre Rampal had a formative influence on the development and importance of classical flute playing during the 20th century – and his exemplary career helped the instrument gain a degree of popularity that prompted one of Washington Post‘s reviewers to pose the question: “Can any other autist since Frederick the Great boast as many fans as Jean-Pierre Rampal?” Through Rampal‘s international career as a virtuoso - and his work as a conductor - the musician made a crucial contribution to the flute being accepted as a solo instrument on the international concert scene. These recordings, made in 1954 and 1955, prove the flute virtuoso to be not only a lover of Mozart‘s music but also a connoisseur of his art.

It was Wendling who enabled Mozart to reach a new understanding of the flute’s possibilities and potential. Krabach plays these works on a wooden transverse flute which has a modern key mechanism. He is able to produce a darker, mellower sound without compromising on intonation and precision.
