This boxed set of 9 CDs brings together all the TUDOR recordings of all the Raff Symphonies, as well as The Suites for Orchestra and the Overtures. Raff was born in Switzerland and studied music while working as a school teacher. He later took up composition full time and was a prolific composer. “For the last 10 years the Tudor label (also Swiss, unsurprisingly) has been doing sterling service on Raff's behalf...The symphonies are substantial pieces – the First from 1861, lasts almost 70 minutes – in a style that seems closest to Mendelssohn and Schumann with just hints of Brahms and Wagner in the later works.” The Guardian, 29th July 2010 *** | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
