Victor Sangiorgio (piano) Composing at the piano was a life-long preoccupation for Stravinsky, whose music for the instrument spans a forty-year period and reflects his distinct stylistic changes. In his Four Etudes of 1908 the use of complex rhythmical patterns between the hands makes for fiendishly difficult execution. The clarity of each of the 1924 Sonatas’ three movements recalls the musical language of the 18th century. In 1925 Stravinsky embarked on a groundbreaking tour of the United States, where he signed his first recording contract for Brunswick. It was for this company that he wrote the Serenade, designing each movement to fit neatly on one side of a 78rpm gramophone record. “Victor Sangiorgio, a pianist new to me, plays this music with authority and assertiveness, captured in excellent sound….there is a wonderful revelation waiting in store for you!” Audiophile Audition | | | (also available to download from $6.00) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. | | | The Journey
“…a nicely balanced and entertaining recital disc… the performances… are never less than interesting, and at best exquisite. Best of all is Fleisher's Bach. The Chromatic Fantasy is a compelling journey in Fleisher's hands, after which the picking out of individual voices in the Fugue is achieved with great subtlety and clarity.” BBC Music Magazine, October 2006 ***** “…one performance stands out… Bach's Chromatic Fantasy and Fugue. …Fleisher… offers a long, searching experience of the loftiness behind Bach's structural scheme. The sense of a personal communion that Fleisher seems always to aim for is very marked here; and almost so in Chopin's Berceuse where introspection is not expressed through maudlin sentimentality.” Gramophone Magazine, November 2006 | | | Usually despatched in 8 - 10 working days. |

“The Prokofiev Seventh is a subtle reading, perfectly conveying the nostalgia and skewed lyricism of the first two movements and producing a pounding, pulverising account of the toccata-like finale.” BBC Music Magazine, September 2005 ***** | | | Usually despatched in 4 - 5 working days. |

| | | Stravinsky: Piano Music
“While the surface flows with neo-classical calm, undercurrents tug at Stravinsky's Sonata of 1924. One record of Peter Hill's performance is to hear these tensions so subtly explored...Hill is professor of music at Sheffield University and his propensity for tonalshading and rhythmic precision have won particular acclaim in his Messiaen recordings. His Stravinsky is no lesspersuasive, whether in the dry clarity of Les Cinq Doigts; the quiet witmovements from Petrushka.” Yorkshire Evening Post, 4th October 2000 | | | (also available to download from $6.00) | This item is currently out of stock at the UK distributor.
