Duo Egri & Pertis

In the late 1830s - the virtuoso period of his life - Liszt took a great interest in Hungarian national music. Liszt’s 15 rhapsodies comprise a poetical-musical cycle he intended to be the Hungarians’ “sounding musical epic work”. The title “rhapsody” itself bears reference to the epic feature Liszt believed to characterise the Hungarian music of his time, as performed by Gypsy musicians.

Performed here by the wonderful Duo Egri & Pertis.
