Christine Whittlesey (soprano) & Adrian Eröd (baritone) Ensemble Kontrapunkte, Peter Keuschnig Egon Wellesz was a very important early twentieth-century composer who studied under Schönberg, but pursued his own path and turned to writing free, expressive tonal music more in the style of Bruckner and Mahler. CPO has released his complete Symphonies (box set 7771832) that he wrote during English exile after 1945. On this new recording CPO release some of Wellesz’s earlier music of the interwar period. All are World Premiere Recordings! His one-act Persian Ballet from the 1920s is an absolute listening must! “This is fascinating music and the extensive booklet-notes are helpful...The recordings, all of which seem to originate from Austrian Radio, are consistently excellent.” International Record Review, March 2011 “The opening Sommernacht is an early, attractive baritone setting of a poem by the little-known Baron Detlev von Liliencron. Satz für Kammerorchester is a fascinating exercise in brevity, lasting a mere 65 seconds, but a satisfying opus. The Persian Ballet is 19 minutes of lively, tonal, sharply coloured invention.” Sunday Times, 2nd January 2011 *** | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
