Isaak Ensemble Heidelberg & Frankfurter Renaissance Ensemble From Michael Praetorius‘ extensive works we hear the same pieces again and again during the Christmas season, such as 'Es ist ein Ros’ entsprungen' (A great and mighty wonder). Thus well-composed, but simple compositions have become well-known to a larger audience. The aim of this recording is to emphasise the whole range of his art of arrangement, the choice being limited to five groups of hymns and two additional concertos: from simple four-part harmony to the complex contrapuntal chorale motet right up to the multi-choral vocal concert with solo voices, choir, instruments and figured bass. |
