Scottish National Orchestra, Neemi Järvi “Neeme Jarvi draws the most seductive response from the SNO; he consistently creates orchestral textures which are diaphanously sinuous. Yet the robust moments…are caught just as strikingly and the listener is assured that here is music which survives repetition uncommonly well.”(Penguin Complete Guide) | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

Moscow Symphony Orchestra, Igor Golovschin "This disc offers some rarely heard Rimsky-Korsakov overtures and opera suites (actually, this Maid of Pskov suite stems from incidental music composed for a play of the same name, and not from the opera). ...the composer's remarkable penchant for vividly coloristic orchestration is always on display, especially in the exotic imagery of The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and in the early Fantasia on Serbian Themes. ...Igor Golovchin and the Moscow Symphony Orchestra play the music with a wonderfully home-grown authenticity you won't find anywhere in the West. If you're interested in this music, this is how you should hear it."

Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra (some works with the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR), Evgeny Mravinsky Conductor Evgeny Mravinsky has become a legend. This Russian musician died in 1988 but his name is still well-known world-wide. Until his death he held the post of chief conductor of the elite Leningrad Philharmonic Orchestra for an incredible 50 years. He left behind numerous recordings of his, to say the least, moving interpretations. After 1961 he only allowed live performances to be recorded.
Thus most of the recordings in this set, made between 1946 and 1983, are registrations of actual concerts. Beginning with Tchaikovsky Russian composers took a prominent position in Mravinsky’s repertoire. In fact the majority of the works in this set are Russian ranging from Mussorgsky to Liadov and from Prokofiev to Zhivotov. | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |
