Volume 7 of Margaret Phillips’ on-going and critically-acclaimed cycle of the complete organ works of JS Bach Two CD set at ‘two-for-one’ price, each disc is a self-contained recital.

This set features two very different instruments by two of the finest organ builders of Bach’s time, both beautifully restored in the last few years. CD 1 features the 1728 Zacharias Hildebrandt organ in St Jacobikirche, Sangerhausen. The second disc features the 1735 Gottfried Silbermann organ in the Petrikirche Freiberg.

Repertoire includes the Preludes and Fugues in G major, A minor and C minor and the great Passacaglia in C minor.

As always, the old proverb rings true: "Practice makes perfect." Even the young Johann Sebastian Bach had to learn and practice - although glimpses of his genius already shone through at a very early age. This CD contains early works such as these for purposes of study written during his student days in Ohrdruf and Lüneburg, as well as from his time in Arnstadt, where he had his first position as organist.

Recorded on the The Kleuker-Steinmeyer Organ of the Tonhalle, Zürich and The Kleuker Organ of Église Notre Dame des Neiges, Alpe d’Huez, France this box set contains 5 discs that were volumes 1-5 of Bach’s organ works as recorded by Guillou as well as his transcription of the Goldberg Variations on disc 6. All of the albums have been newly remastered by the Dorian Sono Luminus staff and packaged in this handsome 6 CD Set. With eight additional discs available in the catalog, Guillou’s legacy as a master of his instrument is well represented and alive in the Dorian Sono Luminus Catalog.
