Anna Malavasi, David Sotgiu, Pierluigi Dilengite, Marcello Rosiello & Francesca De Giorgi Orchestra Internazionale d’Italia & Slovak Chamber Choir, Manlio Benzi (conductor) & Pavel Procházka (director) A rarely performed or recorded opera, Amica’s extravagant scenic and vocal demands contributed to the opera’s neglect until now. Set in the Savoy mountains around 1900, Amica is a ‘dramatic poem in two acts’ involving two brothers, Giorgio and Rinaldo, whose love for the eponymous Amica culminates in tragedy. While today numbering amongst his least performed works, Amica was initially a triumph, praised for its ‘passionate accent’ and ‘impulsive sincerity’ by a contemporary critic, and deemed ‘most worthy of re-revaluation’ according to the composer’s biographer. | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |

Anna Malavasi (Amica), David Sotgiu (Giorgio), Pierluigi Dilengite (Rinaldo), Marcello Rosiello (Camoine), Francesca De Giorgi (Magdelone) Orchestra Internazionale D’Italia & Bratislava Chamber Choir, Manlio Benzi Dynamic is proud to present the world premiere recording on CD of Pietro Mascagni’s Amica. First performed at the Monte Carlo Opera Theatre in 1905, the title role was played by Geraldine Farrar, star of the New York Metropolitan, and future Carmen for movie director Cecil B. De Mille. The plot of this opera centres around the rivalry of two brothers who find themselves fighting for the love of Amica. This opera is recorded in the original French libretto opera. The Italian composer Mascagni was most noted for his operas and his 1890 masterpiece, Cavalleria Rusticana, caused one of the greatest sensations in opera history and singlehandedly ushered in the Verismo movement in Italian dramatic music. In October 2008, Amica will be performed at the Teatro dell’Opera, Rome.. | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. (Available now to download.) |
