Kirnberger: Sonata in B flat major

Johann Philipp Kirnberger (1721 – 1783) A prolific composer in his time, Kirnberger composed operas, chamber works, songs, symphonies, overtures and keyboard works represented on this disc. A great admirer of J S Bach he collected and catalogued compositions works by many fellow composers, some of which are still be used by scholars today.

The French oboe enjoyed considerable success in church music, opera and chamber music from the moment of its arrival in Germany, for the instrument’s charms seduced every composer of the period.

This recording presents works by composers from Telemann to Bach; it demonstrates the development of musical style throughout the baroque era and ends with the first intimations of the pre-classical style.
