Nigel North certainly needs no introduction, with his career to date including recordings for Linn Records and Naxos. The music on this recording comes from the years leading up to Weiss’ time at the Dresden court and is to be found in the London manuscript, which is now preserved in the British Library (Add Ms3038). “Spacious and probing in the Allemande, [North] delivers a wonderfully extrovert Courante and a Menuet oozing sophisticated urbanity. Unfailingly, North's playing is scrupulously considered yet spontaneous.” BBC Music Magazine, January 2011 **** “As always, North's playing is a wonder, an easy, natural musicality and an impeccable technique complemented by a real ear for colour and nuance of expression.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2011 | | | Usually despatched in 4 - 5 working days. |

| | | Weiss - Lute Works
Silvius Leopold Weiss was born in Breslau in 1686, making him an exact contemporary of J S Bach, Handel and Scarlatti. He is regarded as the last great composer of music for the lute. During his life time the instrument was at its highest level of popularity but after Weiss’ death the lute gave way to the harpsichord which was soon to become the instrument of choice for both composers and public. | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days.
