Eric Parkin (piano)

E. J. Moeran was born on 31 December 1894 and died on 1 December 1950. He was a pupil of John Ireland and his friends included Peter Warlock and Arnold Bax. Between 1918 and 1933 he wrote 18 piano pieces, many of them being influenced by the landscapes of Norfolk and Ireland which he loved. This CD - the first integral collection of his piano music - was recorded in October 1994 as a centenary tribute.

“Eric Parkin... is an ideal exponent of Moeran... for the music is always beautifully shaped and phrased. Recommended.” BBC Music Magazine

“This superbly presented disc is a most welcome addition to The Gramophone Classical Catalogue... Eric Parkin plays the repertoire with authority and affection and the piano sound is very natural. Strongly recommended.” Gramophone Magazine

Paul Guinery (piano)

This is a sparkling compilation of English solo piano music and includes music by Delius, Quilter, Grainger, Warlock, Moeran, Bax, Gardner, Austin, O’Neill and Scott. All the works are performed by the Delius devotee, pianist and broadcaster Paul Guinery. This year we celebrate the 150th anniversary of Delius’ birth, so this is a timely release.

“Paul Guinery, well remembered as a genial voice on BBC Radio 3 but also no mean pianist, has assembled this delightful (and well recorded) anthology of music featuring some of those friends on the British musical scene.” BBC Music Magazine, July 2012 ****

“this is a thoughtful and resourcefully compiled programme...Guinery conveys with impeccable taste an innate love of and empathy with this undervalued corner of the repertoire.” Gramophone Magazine, July 2012

“Guinery brings a kindly sonority to his playing of these pieces; indeed, the recording overall is notable for its lack of insistence and focus on nuance. After all, this is not music with which to impress in a showy way, but to court the sense...[Guinery is] a fine and empathetic performer.” International Record Review, June 2012

Iris Loveridge (piano)

Mono Recording

“Moeran's insistent pastoralism avoids sounding embalmed thanks to Loveridge's incisive, beautifully shaded playing. She also excels in Gordon Jacob's fine Piano Sonata (which reveals an altogether stronger composing personality).” BBC Music Magazine, December 2008 ****
