Phyllis Sellick was a remarkable pianist and teacher. Her playing inspired both Vaughan Williams and Walton to write for her. One of her most famous recordings is that of Tippett’s 1st Piano Sonata, included on this release. Born in 1911 she died in 2007. “Plummy, bass-heavy, recorded sound doesn’t do justice to the lovely tone of this most engaging of pianists. Her fingerwork is superlative (try Daquin's Le coucou), and Tippett's First Sonata is strongly characterised.” BBC Music Magazine, October 2008 **** | | | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
