Camden Reeves is a young English composer currently working as a Lecturer in Composition at Manchester University. His “Night Descending” is a dark, brooding song-cycle presented in the manner of a ‘dream sequence’ and based on the poetry of Alfred Lord Tennyson, William Blake and Edgar Alan Poe - texts which have in common the use of a particular animal as a metaphor for repressed psychological fears and desires.

On this disc it is brilliantly performed by the mezzo-soprano Alison Wells and Gemini who gave the world premiere in Manchester on 10th June 2004.
