Luigi Nono had, from the start, few doubts that politics and art were spheres which could not be entirely separated. The immanent structural and expressive complaisance of his music and his antifascist and socialist commitment are closely related. Applied to Nono’s work this means that, for him, art for ist own sake seems to be insufficient, but also that, at the same time, he does not propose to abandon it on account of its Utopian function.
