The King’s Singers

GRAMMY® Award winners in 2009, The King’s Singers are one of the world’s most celebrated ensembles. Their programming concept in this disc is unique: built upon the individual clauses of The Lord’s Prayer, beginning and ending in plainchant, it ranges over the centuries to explore the spiritually charged text. Chant is at the heart of the programme, and each composer’s setting illuminates the others, shedding rich interpretative light on the poetic and devotional aspects of the prayer.

One of the world’s most celebrated ensembles, The King’s Singers have a packed schedule of concerts, recordings, media and education work that spans the globe. Championing the work of both young and established composers, they are instantly recognisable for their spot-on intonation, impeccable vocal blend, flawless articulation of the text and incisive timing. They are also consummate entertainers: a class act with a delightfully British wit.

“There are few vocal ensembles that can work up a concept album like The King's Singers, and this somewhat disparate collection of sacred pieces blossoms into something rather wonderful...The performances have all the panache that we associate with this group” BBC Music Magazine, December 2012 *****

“what a rewarding CD this is, gloriously sung and perfectly recorded.” Gramophone Magazine, December 2012

Thios Omilos

With their debut recording, the Leipzig-based ensemble Thios Omilos give an insight into the sacred music of Jacobus Gallus, Hans Leo Hassler, and Johann Hermann Schein. Hassler’s “Missa Dixit Maria” is at the heart of this production, while the foundations of the Christian faith as well as the main liturgical feasts Christmas, Easter, and the Ascension of Christ form its liturgical framework.

Octava Ensemble, Zygmunt Magiera

Written for 8 voices, Missa Octava has to be performed by two four-voice choirs where they engage in a dialogue echoing each other and becoming united at specific moments. Nearly 400 years on, Octava ensemble bring their unique talents to bear, presenting the Hassler’s creation in a way that as closely resembles the original mode in which his music might have been performed.

“The Octava Ensemble are a young Polish group comprising eight voices and perform Hassler's attractive Mass one-to-a-part...Thanks in part to the extrovert mood of Hassler's music, they sound bright and fresh.” Gramophone Magazine, November 2011

Knabenchor Capella Voca, Eckhard Weyand

Musical and artistic success depends to a great degree on the ability of all those involved to work together harmoniously, in every sense of the word. At the same time, the diversity and individuality of each member of an ensemble needs to be taken into account and nurtured.

These are the guidelines which the founder of the boys' choir and present choir director of capella vocalis, Eckhard Weyand, has adopted. The success of his concept is demonstrated by numerous concerts both at home and abroad and the way in which the choir has rapidly built up a reputation since it was founded.

Following on from the ensemble's debut "Kein schöner Land", released on hänssler CLASSIC (98.360), here is another CD featuring the boys' choir singing sacred choral works and entitled Cantate Domino.
