Glinka: Variations on the song The Nightingale by Alexandr Alabiev in E minor

Glinka’s piano works are part and parcel of Russian Romanticism. They are mostly unknown works but are fascinating, due to their sincerity and elegance of sound. This is the first recording of these pieces on the pianoforte and Titiania Loguinova performs them on a Conrad Graf pianoforte, made in Vienna in 1825.

Glinka was a remarkable pianist and brilliant improviser and appeared as a soloist, a member of ensembles, as an accompanist and was well known in Russia and overseas. He composed piano pieces throughout his life, all of which demonstrate extraordinary finesse and skillfulness, requiring performer’s skills to match.
