MURRAY PERAHIA, winner of the 2010 BBC Music Magazine Instrumental Category Award, is one of the most highly praised pianists in the world today. His poetic phrasing, command of sonorities and supreme virtuosity are perfect for the technical finesse and romantic musicality required by Chopin’s compositions. These five albums give ample opportunity for the listener to experience Perahia’s considered and superb interpretations of Chopin’s much loved masterpieces.

“Perahia's grasp of the rhythm, harmony and texture underpinning Chopin's music is nonpareil, not least in the Waltzes and Mazurkas; while the balance of academic ingenuity and emotional impact in the two sets of Études is considered their definitive realisation.” The Independent, 4th June 2010 *****

“...a timely reminder of what an aristocratic player Perahia can be, and what an understated and self-effacing artist he is...Perahia's approach to the Four Ballades...contains so much that is perfectly realised, so exquisitely coloured and phrased, that it becomes totally convincing.” The Guardian, 29th July 2010

“you will rarely hear such classic strength of purpose, such poetry and lucidity. Every bar, indeed every note is deeply considered, yet the effect is as natural as it is unarguable... This is the Chopin issue par excellence, not just for 2010 but for all time.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2011

“... there is an overall consistency of style in his approach that places the interpretations in a somewhat distant era from our own. Things are unhurried. Phrases are allowed to make their effect through subtle suggestion, rather than by direct and defined statement. The overriding impression is of Chopin as an elegant personality moved in climaxes or quiet moments to express passion and poetry respectively …” Gramophone Magazine

Dino Ciani (piano)

The story of Dino Ciani unfolded in the brief span of a few years.

A period rich in events, successes and hopes that everybody, friends and admirers alike, felt were soon to be realised. Memorable were the technical ease, the smoothness and elegance of Ciani’s playing. Dino Ciani left us on 27th March 1974, meeting his sad destiny on the Via Flaminia near Rome: a road accident, one of the many tragedies to which journalistic routine generally reserves just a few lines at the bottom of the page. News of Dino’s death struck a chill blow to the heart of the entire world of music, not just in Italy, at the time. Twenty-eight years have passed since that tragic accident and Dynamic has decided to dedicate Ciani this 6-CD box set at half price, containing live and studio recordings which have not been digitally re-mastered in order to offer an authentic document of this pianist’s talent.

Sviatoslav Richter represents the summit of pianistic achievement: his incredible virtuosity and strength, his vision of structure and form, the range of emotion he was able to express on his instrument in concert and on disc have never been surpassed.

Now, for the first time, all nine of the solo and concerto LP-recordings he made for Deutsche Grammophon have been gathered into a single box-set at budget price. All of these recordings have been in the DG catalogue since they were made; if they’re not still at top price, they’re in The Originals series.

It started in 1956 with a Schumann recital and ended in 1962 with a recital recorded live on tour in Italy. In between there were five concerto LPs (including Rachmaninov’s Second, Tchaikovsy’s First with Karajan, the Schumann and Prokofiev’s Fifth) and two more mixed recitals. Here they are, faithfully reproduced in their original couplings (newly mastered) and with original artwork in mini-LP format. The CD booklet (in the style of the The Martha Argerich Collection) has masterly new liner notes by piano expert Jeremy Siepmann, who manages to capture the essence of Richter the man and musician, as well as furnishing precise annotations on each of the albums in turn.

An essential box-set for all serious lovers of piano music.
