CPO has been working with the German Chamber Academy of Neuss to record all of Michael Haydn’s Symphonies. This release features nine of the ‘missing’ symphonies, not recorded on CPO before.
The Symphonies on this new recording reveal a highly imaginative composer who indulged in musical experimentation and whose music showed off his sense of humour. It is hardly surprising that the young Mozart repeatedly followed his lead and used his Symphonies as a model for his own.
