Numbered among the musical elect of her generation, the multi-award-winning Xiayin Wang presents a recital of piano music that virtually spans Scriabin’s career. The mysterious impressionism of Vers la flamme (Towards the Flame) builds to an exhilarating intensity that is matched by the two contrasting Poems. From his early Waltzes and Polonaise, with their echoes of Chopin, via the rhapsodic abandon of the Fantaisie, to the Two Dances, composed shortly before his death, these works chart an almost mystical trajectory through the composer’s life. “Scriabin’s Fantaisie in B minor Op. 28 was a luscious wash of colour, infused with big swirls of sound. [Yang’s] soon-to-be released recording of the composer’s music should be a dandy.” The Washington Post “Wang plays all this music with a special brilliance and refinement… she comes up with a performance of Vers la flamme that moves superbly from a brooding menace to a final apocalyptic blaze. …an unusually perceptive introduction to Scriabin's piano music...” Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue 2009 | | | (also available to download from $5.75) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. “Sciabin's late piano pieces remain among the most revolutionary ever written for the instrument. These Morceaux, Poèmes, Danses and Préludes certainly call for a player of unusual insight… with the requisite technical command to give substance to the insubstantial. In all this Crossley succeeds admirably...” BBC Music Magazine, August 2008 ***** “Virtuoso ease and well modulated, evenly balanced sonorities have always marked Paul Crossley's way with repertoire that fuses thorny and sensual elements.” Gramophone Magazine, Awards Issue 2008 | | | (also available to download from $10.50) | Usually despatched in 8 - 10 working days. We are pleased to announce that one of Capriccio’s bestsellers is now available again. The young Swedish pianist Maria Lettberg plays all of Scriabin’s piano compositions. The bonus DVD shows fascinating visualisations of the music by the designer Andrea Schmidt. “Obsessive patterns, harmonies and intervals seem to spin in interstellar space… This is an invaluable issue and a formidable achievement finely recorded.” Gramophone Magazine, May 2008 “Maria Lettberg can withstand comparison with the most exalted company. She is completely attuned to the hyper-refined sensibility and ecstatic rapture of Scriabin's world...Strongly recommended.” Penguin Guide, 2011 edition | | | (also available to download from $26.50) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days.
