For centuries Jews all over the world have been aware of the legend of the golem, a clay figure resembling a human being, first given musical form in 1926 by Eugen d’Albert. The Beethoven Orchestra of Bonn and the Bonn Theatre Chorus presented his music drama on the stage under the conductor Stefan Blunier earlier this year and this performance is part of MDG’s “Live” series.

“it is a piece well worth exploration...There is a good deal of Strauss in Der Golem...which is excellent and handled with Straussian verve by Stefan Blunier...Ingeborg Greiner is excellent as Lea, touching but also convincing in the highly abnormal situation...Mark Marouse has an equally difficult task...and deals with it affectingly”
