Salamone Rossi was born around 1570 and in 1589 was appointed to the post of violinist and singer at the court of Mantua. Giovanni Bassano was a virtuoso on the Cornett and was the principal instrumentalist at St. Mark’s in Venice from 1585 to 1617.
