The Yuja Wang album that everyone has been waiting for wows with musical miniatures that are short, sweet, and huge in impact. These encore pieces by Scriabin, Gluck, Rachmaninov, Chopin and others will enthrall Yuja Wang’s fans with challenging technical demands and the bravura precision of her execution. The variety of styles – which includes neo-Classical, Impressionist, Romantic, jazz - in addition to the quality of the arrangements of pieces that are adaptations, provides a welcome and yet unique listening experience. “Time and again Wang shows us why she’s become the world’s darling, whether shading dynamics poetically in a morsel of Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice, clarifying the multiple layers in Albéniz’s Triana, or romping with the preposterous glitter of Horowitz’s Carmen Variations.” The Times, 23rd March 2012 **** “A disc of encores needs a compelling executant to justify itself, but this young pianist’s technique is quietly transcendent, her musicianship zestful and profound. The sequence itself is satisfying.” Sunday Times, 1st April 2012 “In the Saint-Saens-Horowitz Danse macabre Wang storms the heights and her playing is of an unquenchable virtuosity. She herself declares all these pieces to be among her most cherished encores, and she has been superbly recorded in them.” Gramophone Magazine, June 2012 “No point trying to fault anything: the lightness and flexibility of her touch takes the breath away, and her sound is at every moment transparently controlled, each piece displaying insight and affection...Given that these bonnes bouches were never designed to be consumed in bulk, this young virtuoso has pulled off a remarkable feat.” BBC Music Magazine, June 2012 ***** BBC Music Magazine

| | | Hummel, Neruda & Haydn: Trumpet concertos
plus: CD2 HAYDN with Cadenzas by Stockhausen & Penderecki
Romain Leleu (trumpet) Baltic Chamber Orchestra, Emmanuel Leducq-Barôme Romain Leleu is one of the most prominent proponents of the French school of trumpet. For his second release on Aparté, he has chosen to record the greatest concertos composed for trumpet and orchestra. He is accompanied by soloists from the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Orchestra working as the Baltic Chamber Orchestra. This disc offers different cadenzas for the Haydn concerto written by Stockhausen, Penderecki (recorded for the first time) and Romain Leleu himself on CD.1. The Stockhausen was written for the composer's son Markus and has been recorded only for Stockhausen Verlag, before. Penderecki, first wrote his cadenza for San José principal James Dooley but this was later revised to include the third movement as well as the first, in 2002, for Ole Edvard Antonen, and is delightfully wacky. Two famous encores (one hidden) complete this programme. | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |

Rachmaninov’s reputation as a composer has waxed and waned over the years, but as a pianist he remains renowned, not least among other pianists, as one of the greatest. His perfect technique, utter clarity and discipline, and supreme musicianship shine undiminished through even his earliest recordings. Ever the perfectionist, he would often set down multiple takes of even the shortest pieces (no fewer than 22 of Mendelssohn’s Spinning Song, for instance), carefully choosing only the best for release. His account of a selection of Beethoven’s 32 Variations in C minor WoO 80 effortlessly negotiates every nuance, from utmost delicacy to thunderous virtuosity, while his affinity for the Romantics is self-evident. Producer and Audio Restoration Engineer: Ward Marston “Rachmaninov's unrivalled pianism delights in a stunning recital that opens with a spellbinding Bach Sarabande.” BBC Music Magazine, December 2011 ***** | | | (also available to download from $8.75) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days.
