The Italian composer Giuliani was known as the "Apulian Orpheus" and he was a virtuoso guitar player. Even today, his guitar course of 1812 is regarded as a valuable guide. His late works were influenced by bel canto and are full of quotations from famous opera arias and canzonettas.
