This new album recollects and celebrates some of the choral music heard on royal occasions during the lifetime of HM Elizabeth II. The music chosen reflects the personal choices and commission by the Royal Family for weddings, funerals, and anniversaries. Featuring John Rutter’s celebratory royal wedding anthem This is the day, written for the marriage of Prince William and Kate Middleton at Westminster Abbey in 2011. Newly orchestrated exclusively for this recording, it reminds us of the event that captivated the attention of the nation last year. The CD also includes a new arrangement for unaccompanied choir of the Londonderry Air to the text I would be true, and an orchestration of Schubert’s beautiful Psalm 23 - The Lord is my Shepherd by John Rutter for this recording. “Elin Manahan Thomas is impressive with her poise and limpidity...The Cambridge Singers, outstandingly fresh and communicative throughout under John Rutter's expert, energising direction, excel particularly in a superbly buoyant, incisive performance of the 'Choral Dances' from Britten's Gloriana...Of its type, this is a virtually unimproveable collection.” BBC Music Magazine, September 2012 ***** “it's all beautifully sung. Elin Manahan Thomas performs Mozart's Laudate Dominum with effortless grace, whilst the Cambridge Singers are chameleon-like in their ability to take on different musical styles...Light, joyous, and beautifully performed, this is sacred choral easy listening of the highest standard.” Charlotte Gardner, bbc.co.uk, 16th May 2012 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Paul Mealor: A Tender Light
“[Ubi Caritas's] mixture of expressive lyricisim with occasional unexpected harmonic shadings [is] beautifully rendered in Tenebrae's impeccable performance. The same penchant for peppering his writing with sudden twists of harmony and modulation characterises the four settings of Now Sleeps the Crimson Petal” BBC Music Magazine, March 2012 **** “This is certainly not a recording of Ubi Caritas spin-offs...Tenebrae directed by Nigel Short pull out all the vocal stops at the right moments...Mealor has finally found his true compositional voice here - one that manages to avoid the mawkishness of much that characterises recent tonally imbued choral music.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2012 “The performance [of 'Wherever you are'] on this disc is a more sophisticated one...but somehow the very sophistication is a bit misplaced...There is some very nice music here and there’s absolutely no doubt of the composer’s sincerity...The performances by Tenebrae are excellent, as one would expect from this source.” MusicWeb International, May 2012 “Mealor's settings of religious texts, notably a lengthy "Stabat Mater", along with his uplifting take on Byron's "She Walks in Beauty", [are] delivered with Tenebrae's precision and almost luminous grace.” The Independent, 25th November 2011 “Mealor’s choral creations retain their own British glow, yet he could still suitably share a cupboard with Whitacre’s ecstatic music, and Morten Lauridsen’s too. Lush, warm chords follow a steady pulse, shifting en route into tone cluster crunches before resolving any modest tension with the harmonic equivalent of a handshake...this is a CD with gorgeous singing, much warmth, a beating heart and, as the title says, a tender light. Just don’t overdose.” The Times, 9th December 2011 *** | | | (Sorry, download not available in your country) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. |
