From a distinguished repertoire of music for organ duet, David Leigh and Charles Harrison perform a programme which spans five centuries. Mozart’s famous Fantasia K608 is heard here in a new arrangement, offering a ‘symphonic’ reading informed by the glorious sound-world of ‘Father’ Willis’s late masterpiece at Lincoln, on which most of this disc has been recorded. In three works by Jean Langlais, contrasting elements of that composer’s musical personality are represented, from the quirky to the apocalyptic. Alongside favourites by Carleton, Tomkins, Mendelssohn and Leighton is a world premier recording of Andrew Johnstone’s ‘Shack-up and Feud’, which includes a tango every bit as novel and unusual as the work’s title suggests!
