Prinz Methusalem is the third discovery of an unknown operetta by Johann Strauss II to be released on cpo. Like Der Carneval in Rom (Carnival in Rome) and Das Spitzentuch der Königin (The Queen’s Lace Handkerchief), this is another collaboration between cpo and the Dresden State Operetta under the baton of Ernst Theis.

“The most attractive voice in the cast is that of Jessica Glatte (Pulcinella), a satisfactory operetta soprano - clean tone, sufficient glitter on top (especially good in the first-act finale), clear words and a sympathetic manner...Opposite Glatte in the title role, mezzo-soprano Jana Frey has a smooth, soft-grained sound, a degree of velvet in the tone and a light touch, but not quite the essential charm.”
