This recording is the third in a four-part series dedicated to The Solo Flute, a collection of original music for the transverse flute published by Edition Peters. The Peters edition is the first to collect the most important pieces of the repertoire for flute solo in four volumes.
In combination with the four recordings presented here, they offer a comprehensive overview over the development of the solo flute repertoire aimed at professional musicians and enthusiasts alike. Among the works collected here are both well-known and less well known compositions, some of which have never been published or recorded before. The sheer extent of the material – ranging from simple exercises to salon pieces and from lighthearted musical entertainment to the most challenging concert pieces – illustrates the rich history of solo flute performance practice. Experimentation has always played an important role in the solo flute repertoire: composers such as Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Claude Debussy discovered new directions – and ushered in new musical epochs – with their compositions for flute solo.
