Wellensian Consort, Christopher Finch Described by The Observer as “a contemporary hero of British Choral Music”, Bob Chilcott is one of today’s most widely performed composers of choral music. This programme includes première recordings of favourites such as A Little Jazz Mass, songs and carols on a variety of texts, and the wit, wisdom and drama of Aesop’s Fables in which Chilcott makes musical references to Brahms and Schubert. Winner of the coveted BBC Choir of the Year award in 2010, the Wellensian Consort is one of the United Kingdom’s leading chamber choirs. Bob Chilcott’s music has previously been included in the Naxos albums “A Winter’s Light” (8573030) and the children’s choral selection “Pigs Could Fly” (8572113) described as “first- rate, especially Bob Chilcott’s ‘Lily and the Rose’” by American Record Guide, but these are just the tip of a vast iceberg as far as his superbly crafted output is concerned. This program includes première recordings of some of Chilcott’s most widely performed works, and the performances are in the safe hands of the young and vibrant Wellensian Consort: “This is a hugely accomplished choir, demonstrating technical mastery, smooth musicianship, and wonderful phrasing, producing a warm, fantastic sound throughout the range.” (BBC Music Magazine) “Chilcott knows what works vocally. You can hear this particularly in A Little Jazz Mass, where he perfectly fits the words of the Latin text to the whippy, upbeat syncopations of the Kyrie and Gloria...All the shorter pieces are immediately attractive, and performed winningly.” BBC Music Magazine, June 2013 **** “[Chilcott] seems impossible to ignore, probably because he writes such engaging, rewarding music. You can hear the influence of his years with the King's Singers in this recording: lots of imaginative harmony and sprightly word-painting...sung with warmth, precision and commitment by young alumni from Wells Cathedral school.” The Observer, 21st April 2013 |

| | | The Seeds of Stars: Choral Music by Bob Chilcott
Wroclaw Philharmonic Choir, Bob Chilcott Former King's Singer Bob Chilcott conducts a stellar array of his choral music, in a collaborative performance with the Wroclaw Philharmonic Choir. Described by the Observer as “a contemporary hero of British Choral Music”, Bob Chilcott works tirelessly as a composer and choral conductor - August 2012 saw the first performance of 'The Angry Planet' in the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall, and he has recently completed commissions for The Bach Choir, BBC Singers and National Youth Choir of Great Britain. “The combination of Chilcott’s music and the Wroclaw choral sound makes for a very special disc which is sure to attract any lovers of beautiful music well sung...The singing of the Wroclaw choir is excellent throughout, creating a warm, responsive sound that is harmonious and tightly knit. Some may want more daylight between the notes, but I loved the lush texture of their singing.” MusicWeb International, November 2012 “Bob Chilcott has become a truly international figure in choral music in recent years, as this disc richly testifies, with 18 typically graceful and arresting pieces” The Observer, 9th December 2012 “The Wroclaw Philharmonic Choir...emerges extremely positively from this opening sequence. Freshness of timbre, individuality in the four voice-sections and genuine versatility of interpretative approach are major characteristics. It clearly helps to have the composer, formely a chorister of distinction, at the tiller: the performances sound absolutely secure in intent and unfussily authoritative.” BBC Music Magazine, February 2013 **** “Gentle pastel shades rather than broad primary colours [are] the order of the day, and under Chilcott's own direction, [the choir] are clearly very much at ease with this music...overall this is a choir whose sound is too richly enticing to need anything more than pleasing music and a sympathetic recording, both of which are much in abundance on this disc.” Gramophone Magazine, April 2013 | | | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. |
