| | | Beethoven: Moto perpetuo
If the device known as moto perpetuo has travelled all through the history of music, from Franco-Flemish polyphony down to the American minimalists, it is probably because it encourages us to question our relationship with the infinite. More than a century before the constructivist movement, when he explored this eminently mechanistic form, Beethoven already took that process of questioning to the brink of existential vertigo! His works form the basis of the enthralling programme presented here by Javier Perianes. “Perianes' technique is quietly impressive … he uses it to serve the music. This is very appealing. Harmonia Mundi’s recorded sound in the present release is well suited to Periane’s attractive pianistic touch and tone.” International Record Review, October 2012 “Perianes approaches Beethoven with a freshness and individuality that is immediately engaging. The opening movement of Sonata No. 12, Op. 26 demonstrates some exceptional qualities, most obviously his ability to maximise contrast and characterisation between the different variations; he produces a beautifully veiled tone for those passages of a more reflective nature.” BBC Music Magazine, December 2012 *** “Perianes sets an appropriately veiled mood in the Tempest Sonata's first-movement introduction and throughout the Adagio but elsewhere rounds out the music's angular edges and dramatic surges.” Gramophone Magazine, November 2012 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Sviatoslav Richter in the 1950s, Vol. 7
Parnassus's ongoing documentation of the little-known early period of Sviatoslav Richter's career continues with a monumental, mostly unpublished Beethoven recital from 1951. While there are well-known recordings of Richter playing the "Diabelli" Variations from 1971 and 1986, this is the earliest documented performance of him playing the music. Of the material in this concert, only the "Diabelli" Variations have ever been published before. The remaining material from this concert has never been published in any form. | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Beethoven - Piano Sonatas Volume 3
Angela Hewitt’s legion of fans will be delighted at this eagerly awaited third volume of Beethoven sonatas. Her first two releases in this series were praised for their ‘clarity, intelligence and elegance’ … ‘fusing poetry and passion’, and all these trademark qualities of her playing are fully present in this third disc. Four contrasting sonatas are presented here, including Op 27 No 2 ‘Moonlight’, which needs no introduction. “...the spotlight is on the Moonlight, and Hewitt's performance is totally riveting. Adopting a flowing yet sustained tempo for the opening movement, she creates a beautifully veiled and hypnotic sound...whilst the Presto agitato balances tremendous finger dexterity with passion and urgency.” BBC Music Magazine, August 2010 ***** | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Beethoven - Piano Sonatas Volume 4
“Almost violent dynamic contrasts are frequent, but Ohlsson takes them as far as is idiomatic but no further. Even more important, there are no 'bridge passages' in these performances, everything is melodic or dramatic.” BBC Music Magazine, August 2008 ***** “exquisite playing wedded to a deep understanding of this music. Ohlsson's concentration and dynamic control are mesmerizing...and it is beautifully recorded.” Fanfare | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Beethoven - Piano Sonatas
“The stand-out performance here is Op. 109, where Biss is never less than compelling and at times profound. The way he dissolves the sonority of the Andante's final variation before coalescing for the theme's final return is a magical moment of great emotional force.” BBC Music Magazine, December 2007 **** “Many people are high on Jonathan Biss, the young American pianist, and they are not wrong…..Jonathan Biss is a musical fellow” New York Sun | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |
