| | | Schumann: Piano Trios Nos. 1 & 2
Swiss Piano Trio: Angela Golubeva (violin), Sébastien Singer (cello) & Martin Lucas Staub (piano) Following a successful release of piano trios by Mendelssohn, Audite now presents its second recording of the Swiss Piano Trio, featuring Robert Schumann’s piano trios in SACD format. Composed in 1847, these two works represent significant contributions to the history of the genre as unjustly neglected masterpieces of 19th -century chamber music. Future releases will include Schumann’s Piano Trio Op. 110 alongside the Fantasiestücke Op. 88 and the Piano Trio Op. 17 by Clara Schumann. The Swiss Piano Trio has won prizes at several competitions, including the International Chamber Music Competition Caltanissetta and the Austrian Johannes Brahms. Since its foundation in 1998, the ensemble has enjoyed a busy performing schedule with concerts in over 35 countries. The Trio performs chamber music in the most prestigious concert halls across the globe; and as an ensemble of soloists, the three musicians regularly appear with renowned orchestras. Numerous recordings for radio, television broadcasts and on disc document the artistic activities of the ensemble. “High among the qualities of these excellent performances is the ability to make the most of the brilliance of the writing without losing a grip on the lyrical, and indeed the highly personal, inward nature of the music...It is fascinating music, played here with great perception, and with the suitably outward virtuosity indeed concealing much inward thoughtfulness.” International Record Review, July/August 2012 | | | (also available to download from $10.75) | Usually despatched in 3 - 4 working days. | | | Schumann: Piano Trios, Vol. 1
“The Vienna Brahms Trio goes with the ebb and flow in exemplary fashion, holding back and pushing forward together with the natural contour of the music, and there's a similar care over the grading of dynamics and the shaping of phrasing... Absolute unanimity of purpose and coherence of sound.” BBC Music Magazine | | | (also available to download from $6.00) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days. (Available now to download.) |

Schumann's chamber compositions are undoubtedly among the most important European works of the nineteenth century. Robert Schumann (1810-1856) was the archetypal Romantic composer, a man with unbounded imagination, who mastered almost every genre of his time. His chamber music, which may be regarded as an extension of his piano music, enabled him to explore the construction of his works. This new box-set from ALPHA (seven CDs) presents for the first time Schumann's complete chamber music with piano, played by one of the great Schumann interpreters, who has been exploring this world with great success since 2005: Eric Le Sage. The pianist is joined here by outstanding musicians Paul Meyer, Francois Salque, Franck Braley, Antoine Tamesit and others, who enable the listener to appreciate to the full these masterful works, written by genius of German Romanticism. “in general Le Sage has shown himself to be much more convincing when collaborating with other performers than when left to his own interpretative devices. This set brings together all those chamber music recordings” The Guardian, 28th June 2012 ** | | | (also available to download from $45.50) | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |
