Now here’s a distillation of those recordings, both solo and concerto in a fascinating flow of virtuosic and dreamily romantic music. This midprice release includes the several selections from Chopin, Liszt and Schumann, as well as from the Ravel and Prokofiev piano concertos. There is also some Scarlatti and Mozart – over 80 minutes great music and exceptional playing in a seamless sequence. |

Canada’s “First Lady of Chopin” has embarked on an incredible year of recitals, orchestral concerts and master-classes and will be performing at the Cadogan Hall and Fairfield Hall in May. | | | Great Pianists - Moiseiwitsch 12Chopin Recordings Volume 2 (1938-1952)
This second volume of Moiseiwitsch’s Chopin recordings focuses on the complete Préludes, Op. 28, which the great pianist had attempted to record, unsuccessfully, with the acoustic process, and the Four Ballades. The recording of the complete Préludes is one of the most satisfactory on disc, as Moiseiwitsch captures perfectly the mood of each of these miniature masterpieces. The slower preludes in particular show Moiseiwitsch’s understanding of musical phrasing linked to harmonic progressions. The recording of the Ballade No. 4, his only 78rpm recording of the work, derives from a test pressing. All tracks were recorded in Studio 3, Abbey Road, London “Taken from 78s, the restored sound captures Moiseiwitsch's wonderful light and shade, alchemical pedalling, searching poetry, and vast technique. The 24 Preludes are exceptional.” BBC Music Magazine, October 2008 ***** | | | (also available to download from $9.00) | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Chopin: Waltzes & Impromptus
Reissue Producer and Restoration Engineer: Mark Obert-Thorn This volume continues the Naxos series of Rubinstein’s ‘middle period’ Chopin recordings, begun with the Piano Concertos (8111296) and followed by the Polonaises (8111346). Because the HMV/Victor catalogue already included Cortot’s complete traversal of the Waltzes (8111035), Rubinstein set down only two of them on shellac before making this complete recording in 1954. He had made previous recordings for RCA of two of the Impromptus (Opp. 51 and 66) before taping the four new versions heard on this disc. “this earlier version is wistful and whimsical, and impeccably tasteful.” BBC Music Magazine, March 2011 **** “Try Waltzes Nos 3, 7 and 13...and you will realise that no other pianist has captured more subtly Chopin's unique blend of classical bias and romantic freedom. Here in particular you note an elegance and insiunation devoid of all sentimentality, neurosis or self-serving idiosyncrasy.” Gramophone Magazine, July 2011 | | | (also available to download from $9.00) | Usually despatched in 2 - 3 working days.
