“The combination of Willie Rushton's engaging voice and fine playing by the LPO make this a good choice at budget price, though you won't find the drama or dry humour which both Sting and Sean Connery excel in.” BBC Music Magazine, March 2007 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

“There's a real sense that Sting is enjoying being part of the music-making, adding to the drama with his quaking grandfather voice… and sending shivers down our spine as the wolf appears. There's no hint of a rock-star image here… The Chamber Orchestra of Europe's playing under Claudio Abbado is consistently immaculate with an outstanding string sound, brilliant dynamic contrasts, and superb soloists.” BBC Music Magazine, March 2007 “Abbado and the multi-talented Sting offer a lively and beautifully crafted account of Prokofiev's ever popular Peter and the Wolf. Any fears that the original freshness of Prokofiev's creation may be lost in favour of a less formal approach are soon dispelled – Sting is an effective and intelligent storyteller capable of capturing the imagination of adults and children alike, and there's never a feeling of contrivance or mere gimmickry.” Gramophone Classical Music Guide, 2010 | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |

| | | Jacqueline Du Pre's Musical Stories
In 1979, the much-loved British cellist Jacqueline du Pre, then beset with multiple sclerosis (she was diagnosed in 1973), stepped into the recording studio to make what was to be her last recording - not as cellist, but as an engaging narrator in Peter and the Wolf. Her husband Daniel Barenboim conducted a spacious and relaxed account of this timeless story. The coupling was an expanded version of the movements that are frequently heard as Leopold Mozart's Toy Symphony - the Cassation in G. Her spirit ever indomitable, du Pre had actually taken part in performances of this work in 1976 at the Royal Albert Hall, playing a toy drum. (Earlier, as a little girl, she performed it with much enthusiasm on a television show, managing to rupture the instrument!). This timeless recording has never before been released on CD, and in the spirit of musical-storytelling it is released coupled with two other favourites - Dukas's Sorcerer's Apprentice and Saint-Saens's Danse macabre both recorded some years later by Barenboim. “Jacqueline du Pre's is a leisurely and intimate account, like a bedtime story” Penguin Guide | | | In stock - usually despatched within 1 working day. |
