Bellicose bravado is anathema to Ronald Smith, whose exceptionally personal account of the sonata embraces somewhat more old-fashioned musical values... It holds its own admirably and satisfies its own concept on every level... The sound on this disc is bright and alive and hardly wants for resonance.
